NEW SHARON – Selectmen will hold a public hearing Wednesday on closing portions of roads to winter maintenance.
The hearing is at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at the selectmen’s office.
“Once every 10 years you have to hold a public hearing on closing some roads to winter maintenance so that those roads won’t get plowed during the winter,” Selectman Maynard Webster said. “That saves the taxpayers money.”
Portions of Clearwater Road, Smith Road, Flag Road and Kimball Pond Road are not plowed during the winter, he said.
On Clearwater Road, the closed section is from the snowplow turnaround near the power line to the Industry town line. On Smith Road, it is from the Smith quarry snowplow turnaround to the snowplow turnaround near the Olmstead residence on Dyer Brown Road.
On Flag Road, it is from the snowplow turnaround near Dennis Smith’s home to the driveway leading to Nick Whittemore’s field. And on Kimball Road, it is from the Giles Place snowplow turnaround to the Vienna town line.
