LEWISTON – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is holding its 12th annual Strutt Your Mutt Dog Walk and Pet Festival from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Simard-Payne Memorial Park (formerly Railroad Park).

The morning will feature a 9:30 a.m. Blessing of the Animals followed by a shotgun start for walkers and their canine companions.

Pet crafts, vendors, raffles, canine agility demonstrations and a photographer will be available for professional pet portraits. Attendees can also enter their pooch in one of the talent contests. Contest categories include Best Tail Wagger, Least Obedient Dog, Stupid Pet Tricks, Best Smile, Best Kisser and Bobbing for Burgers.

All walkers are asked to collect pledges. There will be a registration fee for the talent contests of $3/class or four classes for $10. The top fundraiser will be eligible for an installed Dog Watch Hidden Fence System for a half acre and one dog.

The money raised will stay in the community and benefit the homeless, abandoned and abused animals at the humane society.

The strutt is a “people” walk; dogs are welcome, but not necessary. Walking as a team through a business or with friends is encouraged. Dogs must be leashed and have their current rabies vaccination. No dogs in heat should be brought.

Pledge sheets are available at the shelter, local veterinary offices and online at www.gahumane.org. Walkers can also register online at www.firstgiving.com to create personal fundraising pages.

The society is located at 55 Strawberry Ave. For more information about volunteering at the shelter or adopting an animal, call 783-2311 or visit www.gahumane.org.
