CASCO – A Penobscot Indian princess once lived in Raymond. Princess Goldenrod, also known as Dorothy Ranco Beatty, was an entrepreneur who sold Native-made products from her teepee in Casco and later Raymond during the mid-1900s.
A child’s Indian drum, made by her father, Joseph Ranco, has been donated to the Raymond-Casco Historical Society by Jerry Cook of Naples.
Other items sold by Princess Goldenrod included sweet-grass baskets, small birch bark canoes, postcards and souvenir tomahawks.
The society is seeking Princess Goldenrod-related memorabilia and items to be donated to the society for historical preservation. To donate, contact Elizabeth Bullen, president, at 998-3123 or visit www.raymondcascohistory.org.
