The Maine Art Education Association selected Kay McKeever Allison as the 2009 Maine Art Educator. Allison, a 28-year veteran of the Lewiston School Department, teaches at Lewiston Middle School.

In support of Allison’s nomination, Principal Maureen Lachapelle stated, “Kay initiated the LMS Art Student of the Month Award and her students have been recognized in Maine and regionally for their art work.”

Allison exposes her students to a variety of art media. Besides traditional art, she integrates technology into student projects. Allison displays her students’ works throughout Lewiston and the state.

Allison states, “I am committed to the arts and teaching. I find it rewarding when a student has a complex idea and together we brainstorm how to transform this idea into art.”

The Maine Art Education Association, an independent organization, is an academic affiliate of the Maine Education Association. The MAEA works to further the growth of art education in Maine.
