LEWISTON – Dan Moreno, Tri-County Mental Health Services president, board of directors, has announced the following appointments to the board:
Ismail Ahmed of Lewiston is a member of the new American community and advocate for mental health services. He is a self-employed consultant in cultural skills and assists organizations in bridging cultures in their workforces and practices, providing support, training, technical assistance and resources to assist refugees attain self-sufficiency.
Ahmed formerly worked with Catholic Charities’ Refugee and Immigration Services and has been an active community volunteer on the boards of Empower Lewiston, Trinity Jubilee Center and the Lewiston Auburn College Advisory Council, among others. He holds a master’s degree in leadership studies.
Peter Letourneau is a longtime resident of Auburn, and is vice president/national accounts for Geiger Manufactured Products for Geiger Brothers. Letourneau has been an active board member for Literacy Volunteers, where he spearheaded fundraising events like the Scrabble Tournament, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and he has also been involved with the American Red Cross. He offers special skills and interest in budgeting, marketing and fundraising, and a wealth of relationships in the business community.
Both are committed to the mission of the agency and enthusiastic about bringing their unique strengths to its work.
In other business at its recent meeting, the board began planning for its annual meeting and silent auction on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn. Risdon N. Slate, PhD, author of a new book, “Criminalization of Mental Illness, Crisis and Opportunity for the Justice System,” will provide the keynote address.
Slate is a professor of criminology and former chairman of the Sociology and Criminology Department at Florida Southern College. Slate will discuss the real costs of incarceration and implications for the state and community.
The 6 p.m. event will also feature agency awards, dinner, entertainment and a silent auction of art, travel, goods and services. Donated items for the auction are welcome.
