AUGUSTA (AP) – A 20-year-old Augusta man has pleaded not guilty to eight charges linked to a home invasion in Pittston that seriously injured a former legislator and his young daughter.
Daniel Fortune was arraigned Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court on charges that include aggravated attempted murder and robbery.
Fortune is accused of entering the home of 48-year-old William Guerrette on May 27 and slashing him and his daughter Nicole, who was then 10. The two spent weeks in the hospital after the attack.
A second suspect, 18-year-old Leo Hylton, has pleaded not guilty to similar charges. Hylton is Fortune’s one-time foster brother who recently roomed with him in Augusta.
Both men are being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
