NEWPORT – Tyler Green ran for 176 yards and three touchdowns – one on a 55-yard reception – to spark Leavitt to an easy 41-6 victory over Nokomis in Class B Pine Tree Conference football action Saturday.
Green scored the Hornets first three touchdowns on runs of 51 and 21 yards, in addition to his 55-yard catch from Eric Theiss in the first quarter.
The lead grew to 34-0 by halftime when Josh Strickland burst in from 20 yards out and Jon Letourneau returned an interception 90 yards for the touchdown.
Theiss closed out the scoring with a 20-yard run in the thirdn quarter. Ryan Urquhart converted five of six extra-point kicks.
Nokomis averted the shutout when tailback Derek Amoroso scored on a 14-yard run in the final quarter.
Kolby Youland, Phillip Russell and Cam Griffin led the Hornets defense. Green needed just nine carries to accumulate his 176 yards of rushing. Strickland added 121 yards on nine carries. Theiss completed 4 of 8 passes for 134 yards and ran twice for 32 yards.
