WEST PARIS – Town Manager John White told selectmen on Thursday that the town’s insurance company will cover replacement costs for the Perham Field grandstand that was destroyed by fire in July.
White originally said the Maine Municipal Association Risk pool had set coverage at $14,000, a small part of the $55,000 needed to replace the 64-year-old structure.
“We had not expected more than the $14,000 but I have received word from the risk pool now that the whole amount will be covered,” he told selectmen.
Insurance will pay $51,935 to rebuild the structure and $7,311 for the contents. White estimated it will cost $55,000 to do the job, including replacing a pitching machine, a mower and other equipment that was also destroyed.
The town has received $44,069 already with the rest to be paid once the structure has been rebuilt and the contents replaced.
In other business, selectmen voted to forward $10,772 in second and third quarter payments to Tri-Town Ambulance and Rescue Service.
Selectmen had delayed payments waiting for internal problems to be resolved in the service.
The town office will be closed Oct. 9 so staff can attend the Maine Municipal Association Convention.
