Technology and teamwork were being hailed for helping authorities quickly locate two boys lost in the woods off Girardin Lane in Poland on Monday night.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department reported that a Minot woman reported receiving a cell phone call from her two sons, ages 18 and 14, that they were lost in the woods. The dispatcher who handled the call told the boys to call 911 from their cell phone, and then used enhanced 911 cellular telephone technology to obtain the boys’ exact location.

Officers with the Maine Warden Service and Poland Fire Department were called in to help track the boys using GPS technology, but the enhanced 911 technology put officers from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office and Mechanic Falls Police Department close enough that the boys were located in less than 30 minutes.
