FRYEBURG – Pam Harnden, executive director of the Maine Beef Producers Association, has announced that the association will sponsor a club-calf auction on Friday, Oct. 3, at Fryeburg Fair. It will be held immediately following the 4-H market steer auction, which, in prior years, has ended about 1 p.m.

The main purpose of the auction is to bring to one place calves from several beef breeds, making it easier for 4-H youth to view and possibly obtain project animals for next year. The sale is not limited to 4-H families and anyone may bid.

Deadline for entries will be 9 a.m. Oct. 3. All calves must be halter-broken, and a $30 entry fee is required for each animal. In addition, all consigners must be members of the Maine Beef Producers Association. Heifer and bull calves must be registered. Steers do not need to be registered.

For more information on conditions of sale or other questions, contact Ed Carter, 737-2872, or Pam Harnden, 645-2568.
