RUMFORD – State Rep. John Patrick, D-Rumford, has announced his candidacy for Oxford County Commission, District 2 seat.

Patrick is completing eight years as a member of the Maine House of Representatives representing District 92.

He is a former House Labor Committee member and chairs the House Legal and Veterans Affairs Committee. Patrick also chairs Maine’s Citizen Trade Policy Commission.

In his role as chairman of a joint-standing committee, he was dedicated to working in a bi-partisan fashion and had 70 percent of all bills come out of his committee with unanimous committee reports, a campaign statement said.

Term limits prevent Patrick from continuing to serve in the House.

“I look forward to bringing my ability to achieve consensus, as well as my extensive contacts in state government, to the county commission,” Patrick said in the statement. “County government is at an important crossroads and it is vital to get broader input than has been occurring in the past.”

Patrick said he was pleased to sign onto the Oxford County Candidates 10 Point Plan to revitalize county government.

The plan is available online at: www.oxforddems.org.

District 2 includes the towns of Andover, Byron, Canton, Dixfield, Gilead, Hartford, Lincoln Plantation, Magalloway Plantation, Mexico, Newry, Peru, Roxbury, Rumford, Sumner, Upton, and the unorganized territories of Milton and northern Oxford county.
