AUBURN – The winner of the 2008 Auburn Book Project is Liza Gaylord, a seventh-grader at Auburn Middle School, will be honored at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Auburn Public Library.

Gaylord and eight other finalists in the project will be honored at the children’s room in the library at 49 Spring St.

Gaylord will present copies of her book to the library to be archived and will receive her awards, including a $100 savings bond. Gaylord’s name will be added to a plaque with the names of the eight previous award winners, which is on display at the Park Avenue School where she wrote her winning book, “Charlotte’s Frog Surprise,” as a sixth-grader.

The library event will be followed by a book sale and book signing at Waldenbooks at the Auburn Mall from 1-3 p.m.

Gaylord’s original book was based on a real experience and tells about the successful raising of seven frogs, according to a news release on the book.

“I first got the idea to write this story from a district writing prompt, where we were asked to write about a favorite memory or experience,” Gaylord said. “I immediately thought that the summer of raising frogs would be a good topic.”

The book also has original illustrations done in a bold graphic style of art.

“I was surprised by the fun I had with the artwork,” Gaylord said. “I was hesitant to have to draw everything in the story, but enjoyed illustrating pages with cut paper and line designs.”
