RUMFORD – More than a 125 people took part in Sunday’s American Heart Association Heartwalk at Hosmer Field, raising more than $15,000.

This was the first time a satellite site was used for the fundraiser. Previously, area people went to Lewiston to participate in the event, said Jane Bubar, spokeswoman for Rumford Hospital.

She said 16 teams, ranging from two members from Marden’s to 75 people from Rumford Hospital walked one, two or four miles. Special activities were organized for children.

She said the team raising the most per capita came from Franklin Savings Bank.

Bubar said she helps organize the event because of the importance to Central Maine Medical Center Heart and Vascular Institute. Rumford Hospital is affiliated with the Lewiston hospital.

“We were thrilled with the (local) turnout, especially because the event took place in the rain,” Bubar said.
