EAST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) – Police have arrested a man initially identified as a Springfield firefighter on suspicion that he raped a teenage boy at knifepoint.

WWLP-TV reported Sunday that police responded to a Merrimac Avenue home just after 12:10 p.m. after getting a home invasion report. Officers at the scene heard allegations that the teenager had been raped.

Police later arrested 33-year-old Eddie Rivera of Springfield on charges of aggravated rape of a minor and aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, a knife.

Springfield Fire Department spokesman Dennis Ledger has confirmed that a person named Eddie Rivera does work at their Mason Square Fire Department. It was not immediately confirmed whether the detained suspect is that firefighter.
