PORTLAND (AP) – Mercy Hospital is setting up a memorial fund to benefit the 2-year-old daughter of a hospital security guard who was fatally shot while working on the job.

Mercy Hospital officials announced Monday the creation of a fund in honor of 27-year-old James Angelo, who was gunned down in the early morning hours of Sept. 7 in the hospital parking lot while returning from a break. Police are searching for two assailants.

Hospital officials say Angelo was committed to the safety and security of patients and staff, and will be remembered for his soft-spoken manner and warm smile.

Contributions to the James Angelo Memorial Fund will benefit Angelo’s daughter, Elizabeth.
