JAY – Voters agreed Monday to appropriate $5,000 from the town’s overlay account for the Franklin Area Ecumenical Heating Fund designated to benefit Jay residents. The fund is administered by Western Maine Community Action.
After the close of the special town meeting, selectmen took up regular business.
They voted to hold the annual municipal town meeting on April 27. That session won’t include the school budget.
But the time frame will allow election of directors of a new regional school unit if voters approve a merger between Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls in January 2009, Town Manager Ruth Marden said.
It will also give the town enough time to hold a second election before the end of the fiscal year on June 30, 2009, if a municipal article fails, Marden told selectmen.
In another matter, the board directed Code Enforcement Officer Shiloh Ring and Building Inspector James Butler to continue to watch two apartment buildings on Route 140 that may fall under a dangerous building law if a chimney that fell down last winter is used.
One of the buildings is vacant, the other has one tenant, Ring said.
The board also approved policies that govern travel and meal reimbursement and credit card use by town employees.
