LEWISTON – The future of spring cleanup trash collections will be the topic of a special Nov. 13 forum, hosted by the city’s Solid Waste Committee.
“We realize that it’s a convenience for a lot of residents, but it can be a problem for the city,” said committee Chairman Michael Dumas. “We haven’t made a decision about it yet. That’s why we want to hear from the public.”
The forum is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. in City Hall.
The committee began meeting this spring. The group was created by the City Council to review the city’s solid waste, recycling and land fill issues and make recommendations. They meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 6 p.m. in City Hall.
The city collects bulky items and yard waste over several weeks each spring.
“But this year, it took longer than before to collect all of it,” Dumas said. “There was more waste than normal, and it cost the Public Works crews weeks they could have spent paving the city’s roads.”
