LEWISTON – Peter M. MacArthur of Lewiston is participating in the Bates College Junior Year Abroad program.
MacArthur, who is double majoring in history and French, is studying in Paris through Middlebury College.
Students at Bates have the option of taking a semester or full year in a foreign country.
Both programs provide them opportunities to study and conduct research at their choice of hundreds of colleges and universities throughout the world.
According to Associate Dean of Students Stephen Sawyer, program director, the experience serves to enhance students’ college careers by offering opportunities to live in other cultures and speak other languages.
Some students at Bates enroll independently at the foreign university of their choice, while others take the option of foreign-study programs at other accredited American colleges.
MacArthur is the son of Susan MacArthur of Lewiston and Steven D. MacArthur of Fort Scott, Kan. He is a 2006 graduate of Lewiston High School.
