Carolyn Renee Hricko of Minot was awarded a bachelor of arts degree during the Bowdoin College May commencement. She graduated with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. Hricko was a Sarah James Bowdoin Scholar and received department honors in her biology major.

Nathan Brimmer, a student at Central Maine Medical Center School of Allied Health Sciences, Lewiston, has won a Tafford Uniforms Nursing Scholarship.

Brimmer is pursuing an associate’s degree in nursing. He is an active wilderness first responder and first-aid teacher. Brimmer realized he wanted to pursue a career in nursing after volunteering in a New Orleans health clinic after Hurricane Katrina.

“My experiences in New Orleans have left me compelled to advance my training to a level that will allow me to provide vital services in my home community, as well as in future disaster scenarios,” said Brimmer.

Wentworth Institute of Technology of Boston celebrated the graduation of 507 students during its summer commencement ceremony on Aug. 17.

Local students receiving bachelor of science degrees were: Jeannette Latham of Hebron. Nathan Deschaine of Lewiston, Beth Melanson of Lewiston, Patrick Ouellette of Lewiston, Shane Verville of Lewiston, Dylan Poulin of North Monmouth, Paul Mazziotti of Raymond and Mindy Thomas of Turner.



Westfield State College in Westfield, Mass., has named the following local students to the dean’s list of the spring 2008 semester: Alexandra L. Wight of Poland, majoring in English, and Bryant P. Cyr of Poland, majoring in theater arts.

To receive dean’s list status, a student must complete a 12-hour semester with a grade point average of at least 3.3 (B+), have no grade below a 2.0 (C) and have no incomplete grades.
