BOSTON – Amanda Bergeron of Lewiston graduated summa cum laude from the School of Communications at Emerson College on May 19. A 2004 graduate of Lewiston High School, Bergeron attained the highest grade point average in the Emerson Department of Journalism and was a four-year dean’s list student.

During her college career, Bergeron was a member of women’s varsity tennis, participated in several internships, including a six-month co-op with the Boston Globe newsroom and was deputy city desk editor for the Berkeley Beacon, the Emerson College newspaper.

For her senior honors thesis project, she co-directed a feature documentary titled “After the Storm: Lessons from the Northern Edge,” which focused on New Bedford, Mass., scallop fishermen and their response to the hazardous working conditions caused by fisheries management regulations. “After the Storm” had its premier showing on Rhode Island Public Television in mid-September.

Bergeron plans to pursue a career in publishing and is employed by HarperCollins Publishers in New York City. She is the daughter of Claude and Claudeen Bergeron of Lewiston.
