LEWISTON – Police are investigating a Monday night incident that sent one man to the hospital with lacerations.

The incident occurred at an apartment at 193 Holland St. and was reported at 10:01 p.m. Lewiston police Lt. Mark Cornelio described the victim as being in his late 20s, but withheld his name due to an ongoing investigation. The man was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with lacerations, where he was listed in stable condition early Tuesday morning.

“This did not appear to be a random act of violence,” Cornelio said of the incident. “All the parties knew each other.”

No arrest had been made as of early Tuesday morning

Police declined to release the weapon used.

Residents who were gathered at the scene said that the man was discovered in the middle of the street at Holland and College streets near College Street Variety. A trail of blood drops led to a pool of blood in the middle of the intersection surrounded by a pile of rags and bandages.

“We just came up here and there was a big blood spot and he was just lying there,” said a woman who was among the crowd gathered across the street from the corner store.

Police officers ran yellow tape around the crime scene on Holland Street between College and Wood streets.

Lewiston police Sgt. Jeff Parshall said two individuals were taken to the police station to be interviewed by detectives.

No one awaiting word from the police knew the man, but all wanted to know what happened in their neighborhood. Police released few details about the incident because of an ongoing investigation.
