AUBURN – The Great Falls Model Railroad Club of Auburn and Lewiston is sponsoring a model train show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Auburn Middle School gym and cafeteria.
Displays will feature a variety of model trains, including HO, G-gauge and N-scale, built by model train enthusiasts from Maine. Dealers from around New England will be available to answer questions and to sell new and used model railroad items. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 under 15.
The Auburn Music Association will benefit from the sale of refreshments at the train show. This is the association’s largest annual fundraising event. Members will provide coffee and doughnuts throughout the morning, with luncheon specials beginning about noon. A play area will be provided for younger children near the tables so that parents can sit and watch the children.
Many local residents regularly see Train Time, the club-sponsored program on Great Falls Television and on Time-Warner Cable from Augusta. Many of the Train Time videos will be shown continuously throughout the day and will be available to purchase.
The club has been active in the community, with displays at libraries, schools and public events such as the Great Falls Balloon Festival, YWCA, Advocates for Children and Santa’s arrival at Christmas.
Through Auburn Adult Education, the club offers a class in model railroading twice a year. The Great Falls Model Railroad Club recently purchased property on Mill Street in Auburn and the train show is a fundraiser to help renovate the building.
This is the 35th year the model train show has been in Auburn. Local modelers Al Thurston and Wally Chase started the shows in the early 1970s as a way to promote the hobby through the Seacoast Division of the National Model Railroad Association.
