Benefit supper

NORWAY – A casserole supper will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Norway Legion Hall, Main Street, to benefit David Hutchins, son of Rick and Marcia Campbell Cummings and David and Cindy Hutchins.

David has non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and soon will go for a transplant. He will be out of work for several months.

Cost for adults will be $8; ages 5 to 12, $5; age 4 and under, free. For more information, call Stephanie Allen at 743-7186.

Winter reading

PARIS – Hamlin Memorial Library has announced its winter checkout period. Any books checked out between Oct. 18 and Nov. 1 do not have to be returned to the library until April 1, 2009.

The library’s hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays through Saturday, Nov. 1.

The library will close for the winter, reopening on April 1.

College fair

PARIS – The second annual college fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Representatives from more than 70 diverse post-secondary institutions will attend. The event is free and open to the public.

District meeting

BUCKFIELD – District 5, Oxford County, American Legion, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Buckfield American Legion Hall.

The district includes American Legion posts, auxiliary units and Sons of the American Legion. Department Service Officer Robert Owen will be the guest speaker.

The program will be followed by refreshments of pumpkin pie and other goodies.

Legion karaoke

NORWAY – The American Legion Post 82 will host karaoke from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, with professional DJs, the Old Crows. Food will be available.

Jumble sale

PARIS – The First Baptist Church will hold its first church jumble sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 25, sponsored by the Senior Social Center. Proceeds will go toward the heating fund.

Harvest supper

PARIS – South Paris American Legion, Church Street, will host a public harvest supper and dance on Saturday, Oct. 25. The supper will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. The dance will follow from 7 to 10 p.m. with music by Jones Dance Band. Cost is $5 for adults.

Basket bingo

NORWAY – Longaberger Basket Bingo will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Norway Legion Hall, Main Street. Doors will open at 11 a.m. and bingo will start at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. There will also be special games, raffles and refreshments.

4-H auction

PARIS – The Oxford County 4-H Leaders Association and 4-H clubs will hold the annual Take-A-Chance Auction on Friday, Dec. 5, at the Oxford Hills Middle School cafeteria. Doors will be open at 5 p.m. for viewing and will drawings for winners will start at 6:30.

Leaders and members are getting new and quality used items. Tickets to Storyland have been promised again this year. The clubs will have food available.
