LEWISTON – The Abused Women’s Advocacy Project domestic violence conference will be held Monday, Oct. 27, at the Ramada Inn.

Dr. Stephanie Covington, co-director of the Institute for Relational Development and the Center for Gender and Justice in La Jolla, Calif., will be the guest speaker.

A clinician, author, organizational consultant and lecturer, Covington is renowned for her pioneering work in the area of women’s issues, specializing in the development and implementation of gender-responsive services. She has conducted seminars worldwide on addiction, sexuality, families, and relationships for health professionals, business and community organizations, and recovery groups.

The seminars, both practical and sensitive in approach, provide professionals with an opportunity to learn skills for dealing with personal, institutional and societal changes.

Preregistration for the conference, which is sponsored by Androscoggin Bank, Central Maine Medical Center and the Maine Chiefs of Police Association, is required. Cost is $75; scholarships may be available.
