BROOKLYN, Ohio – What do you get when you cross a hockey-mom-turned-vice-presidential-candidate with a little imagination?

A Sarah Palin Halloween costume.

Owners Tim and Lori Bodziony at Jinxed! Costumes & Magic carry more than 6,000 costumes, wigs, props and masks – including rubber masks of presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama.

But, alas, Palin didn’t emerge as a national figure until McCain announced her as his running mate on Aug. 29, so costume makers haven’t had enough time to cast her as a rubber mask for Halloween, Tim Bodziony said. He ordered Obama’s and McCain’s $21.99 masks, for example, back in February.

“They only make as many masks as they think there’ll be demand for,” he said

So many customers have been clamoring for a likeness of the feisty Alaska governor that the Bodzionys created their own.

They took a $42.99 chestnut brown wig, pinned it up in a Palin-inspired up-do, added a $12.99 pair of wireless spectacles and, voila! The beginnings of a Sarah Palin costume. Outfit, earrings and snappy comebacks sold separately.

“Her voice, her mannerisms – she’s definitely got qualities that make it easy to portray her,” Bodziony said.

Interest in Palin sparked after she spoke at the Republican National Convention and appeared in the vice presidential debate but skyrocketed after Tina Fey’s caricatures of her on “Saturday Night Live.”

“She’s definitely going to be a hot Halloween costume,” Bodziony said.

“I’ll bet you if “Saturday Night Live’ had left her alone, she probably wouldn’t be such a big deal” – just like the Democrats’ vice presidential candidate. There’s been absolutely no demand for Joe Biden costumes, Bodziony said.

The waiting list of people dying to impersonate her has already outpaced the demand for Obama and McCain at Jinxed.

And while the men buying Obama and McCain masks have generally been buying the one of the guy they don’t plan to vote for, Palin’s waiting list includes both admirers and detractors, both men and women.

Julie Jurcak, 29, said she can’t wait to be Palin for Halloween.

“I’m definitely a Sarah Palin fan,” she said. “I think she completely exemplifies the entire woman, that you can be both smart and attractive at the same time. I just love what she stands for, and to me, she’s the ultimate woman. She’s a mom, she’s a wife, she’s a governor, and she’s going to be vice president of the United States.”

Her brother’s girlfriend is going to dress up as Palin, too, Jurcak said. But that’s OK: “We’re not going to the same parties.”
