Every day I hear or see advertising in the news media by candidates running for office in Washington, D.C.

Their claim is that a change is needed.

As people are painfully aware, changes are either slow or non-existent. Elected officials continue to send taxpayers’ money all over the world instead of keeping it in this country to help the aged, homeless and low- to middle-class Americans survive.

On a state level, people vote for individuals who promise no tax increases, and then come up with a fee.

What’s the next trick?

The reason for this letter is to alert the voters of Senate District 17 of my experience with an elected official. As a resident of Livermore, I have attempted to contact Sen. John Nutting to discuss issues I had concerns about within the Maine statutes. I called him in his Augusta office, not once, not twice, but seven times. I also called him at his home. As of this writing, no return call has been forthcoming from him.

As a past elected official, when one of my constituents called, I got back to him within 24 hours.

When an elected representative is too busy to return calls from the people who voted him into office, it is time to vote for a change.

I would support a representative who would work for the people and businesses in the state of Maine.

Douglas Wiggins, Livermore
