SEARSPORT (AP) – Maine authorities say a two-mile section of Route 1 between Searsport and Stockton Springs that had been shut down, along with a local school district, has been reopened as a police search for a motorist continues.

The driver allegedly pointed a gun at a local police officer during a traffic stop and fled.

More than three dozen police officers, including the state police tactical team, have been searching for 55-year-old Randall Hofland of Stockton Springs.

Authorities say his car was located in a field off Route 1 in Searsport on Thursday night at about 11 p.m.
