AUGUSTA (AP) – Gamblers could soon be pulling slot machine levers on Sunday mornings at Maine’s lone casino.
The Maine Gambling Control Board has given its initial approval to a request from Hollywood Slots in Bangor to allow it to open at 8 a.m. on Sundays, the same time it opens the rest of the week. State law allows the facility to be open from 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. daily except on Sunday, when it can open at noon.
The gambling control board will hold a public hearing before making a final decision, which is expected at its next regular meeting on Dec. 10.
Hollywood Slots general manager Jon Johnson said if Sunday-morning gambling is allowed, the company would see an additional $700,000 to $1 million in annual revenues, and the state could make an extra $350,000 to $500,000 in taxes.
