FARMINGTON – Local teams of volunteers will take part in a statewide Keep ME Warm effort Saturday, Oct. 25. The day is also the national Make a Difference Day, said Marc Edwards of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.
Extension offices across the state will distribute winterization kits to volunteers and train them to install energy-saving items in local homes in an effort to help Maine residents with the rising cost of fuel. The teams are responsible for identifying local residents that could benefit from the kits.
The local extension office will distribute 85 kits, he added.
Students, staff and community members involved in the University of Maine at Farmington’s Sustainable Campus Coalition, an organization dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability on campus and the Farmington area, will join the Keep ME Warm effort.
The United Way and Western Maine Community Action are working with Edwards to plan this year’s activity.
The kits include items such as rope caulking, low-flow showerheads, gaskets, foam tape for doors, plastic to cover at least four windows and more.
