On Wednesday, August 20 Anne-Marie Davee, a former Olympic Gold Medal Runner, gave a presentation on sports nutrition at Lisbon High School. Ms. Davee spoke about what athletes should and shouldn’t be eating and drinking. She also started the best fluids are water, sports drinks, and diluted fruit juices. Energy drinks, coffee, or caffeinated drinks should NEVER be consumed by athletes. These drinks only give you a quick burst of energy and they cause you to have cramps. Ms. Davee also spoke about what is important in eating, vitamins, and the importance of not starting anything “new” the day of your event.
“Athletes can get high test fuel from whole grain breads, cereal and pasta. They should also drink lots of water. Drinking water can help reduce cramps and keep your muscles well hydrated. One last thing always remember to get PSYCHED. You can do it,” shared Ms. Davee.
