GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (AP) – Police say a body found near a Long Island highway has been identified as that of a teacher who vanished on her way to school this week. They say her husband has been charged with her murder.

Twenty-nine-year-old Leah Walsh was reported missing by William Walsh on Monday morning, when her abandoned car was found with a flat tire on another highway 13 miles away.

Her body was found in the wooded area on Wednesday. Police say it had been there for more than 24 hours.

William Walsh was questioned by detectives on Tuesday as a routine part of the investigation.

Before the discovery of the body he spoke to reporters outside the couple’s Bethpage home and made an appeal for information about his wife’s whereabouts.
