Rangeley woman presented Post cane
RUMFORD – A celebration was held at the Rumford Community Home on Oct. 26 to honor Angie Ivers, 99, who was presented the Boston Post cane as Rangeley’s oldest resident.
Ivers has dreamed of living long enough to earn the honor of receiving the cane since her grandmother, Belzora Ross Wilcox, and one of her older brothers, Clifford Wilcox, each received it.
Some of her 12 remaining children who were able to attend are: daughter, Janet Mannix, along with her youngest daughter, Colleen, of Constable, N.Y.; sons, Roy, and wife, Carol, of Gray, Peter and wife, Debra, of Westbrook; daughters, Bonnie and Tom Haggan of Rangeley, and Gloria and David Breton of Rumford.
Rangeley Town Manager Perry Ellsworth made the presentation along with historian Shirley Adams and her husband, photographer George Adams.
A large bouquet of red roses and cards of congratulations were presented Ivers, and light refreshments were served.
Ivers has been a lifelong resident of Rangeley.
