LIVERMORE FALLS – Incumbent state Rep. L. Gary Knight, R-Livermore Falls, won re-election over opponent Peggy Dwyer, a Democrat from Livermore, for a second term in House District 81.
Knight won in the towns of Leeds, Livermore Falls and Wayne while Dwyer took her hometown of Livermore. The overall vote was 2,502-2,194.
Knight, a retired banker, said he has been asked to serve again on the state Legislature’s Taxation Committee.
“I was very pleased, grateful and honored that the citizens asked me to go represent them over in Augusta,” Knight said.
Dwyer, a farmer and senior services provider, was unavailable for comment Wednesday.
Knight said Dwyer had called him and graciously thanked him for running a clean race.
“I think she ran an excellent race in good spirit with Maine elections,” Knight said. “It was a very positive campaign.”
