Franklin Memorial Hospital’s new remote intensive care unit monitoring system, Franklin eICU, went live this week. Patients in the ICU unit at Franklin Memorial are treated by its physician hospitalists and monitored and helped by intensivist physicians (physicians trained in the care of the critically ill) associated with Maine Medical Center. The eICU does not replace local physicians, but it does give them the benefit of having specialist physicians and trained intensive care nurses “watching” their patients at times. From left are David Dixon, vice president for medical affairs and education; Chanda Moody, ICU nurse; Jan Bell, director ICU/med/surg; Larry Label, hospitalist; and Miriah McKenna, assistant director ICU/med/surg.
