BIDDEFORD (AP) – Voters in Biddeford have overwhelmingly rejected a proposal that would have closed the city’s airport.

Supporters of a referendum to close the Biddeford Municipal Airport said the facility should be closed because it costs the city money and is a burden on taxpayers. But airport advocates said it brings in economic activity to the city.

Residents opposed closing the airport by a vote of 8,064-1,714.
