PARIS – Four men pleaded guilty Wednesday to drug charges in Oxford County Superior Court.
Dennis M. Garey, 27, of 971 Valley Lane, Waterford, pleaded guilty to an information of Class C unlawful furnishing of cocaine. Justice Roland Cole ordered Garey to serve a one-year deferred disposition, and the charge may be dismissed if he follows a set of conditions, including refraining from new criminal conduct, during that time.
Police arrested Garey and three other individuals in April after an investigation into a cocaine trafficking operation being run out of an apartment on Cottage Street in Norway. Police found 27 grams of cocaine, seven of which had been cut for sale, along with scales, packaging materials and nine cell phones.
Garey was indicted in June on a charge of Class A aggravated trafficking in cocaine. David Thompson, 45, of 33 Fire Lane, Harrison; Cheryl Thompson, 43, of Norway; and Heath Edwards, 28, of Waterford were also indicted on the same charge.
David Thompson also pleaded guilty to information of Class C unlawful furnishing of cocaine on Thursday. Cole sentenced him to a one-year deferred disposition, during which he must not use or possess illegal drugs; have no contact with Garey or Edwards; testify truthfully in any matter in which he is subpoenaed by the state; complete 40 hours of public service work within six months; and seek and maintain employment within 60 days.
Edwards and Cheryl Thompson are scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
Edward Aiken, 32, of 185 South Shore Drive, Hanover, pleaded guilty to Class D marijuana cultivation. The plea dismisses charges of Class C unlawful trafficking in marijuana and Class D unlawful possession of psilocybin mushrooms.
According to a police report, a search at Aiken’s residence discovered three pounds of processed marijuana, eight marijuana plants, a one-ounce package of mushrooms, electronic cultivation equipment, and scales.
Aiken was sentenced to serve 30 days in jail and pay a $500 fine.
Philip R. Thompson, 36, of 131 Pine Point Road, Oxford, pleaded guilty to Class C unlawful trafficking in marijuana and Class C marijuana cultivation. He was ordered to serve a six month deferred disposition, and may plead to misdemeanor marijuana cultivation and pay a $1,000 fine.
Police seized 55 budding marijuana plants and 189 clone plants that were not ready to bud in a search at Thompson’s last November. Lori Minta, 29, was indicted on the same counts and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor marijuana cultivation earlier this week. Assistant Attorney General David Fisher said the couple planned to sell the marijuana to purchase Christmas gifts for their children.
Gary S. Dean, 50, of 69 Slide Hill Road in Stoneham, pleaded guilty to Class C acquiring drugs by deception. Dean was indicted last November on 16 counts of the same charge, half of which were Class C felonies and half of which were Class D misdemeanors.
Dean was accused of giving contradictory prescriptions to a pharmacy to receive Oxycodone. He was sentenced to a six-month deferred disposition, during which time he must complete 100 hours of community service. The charge may be dropped upon successful completion.
