HARTFORD – More than 60 relatives, friends and neighbors gathered on Sept. 21 at the home of John and Jean Dyke in Hartford, to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary.
Hosts were their son, John L. Dyke and his wife, Rose, and their daughter, Linda Green, and her husband, Richard.
Mrs. Dyke was born in Hartford and Mr. Dyke was born at Canton Point, and as an infant, moved with his family to Jay. When he was 17, they moved back to Canton. The couple met at school and they were married Sept. 24, 1938, shortly after she graduated from Canton High School.
They have lived in Hartford throughout their married life, except for one brief period in Canton. They have both been employed at various local businesses. Mrs. Dyke retired from Livermore Shoe Co. in 1990 and Mr. Dyke continued to work as a self-employed carpenter until 1995.
They have two children, eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
