St. Dom’s is hosting its own mock election. The AP government class will be setting up voting booths for faculty and students, both of voting age and otherwise, to vote during the mock election. Many students are looking forward to being able to vote for the candidates of their choice as well as on the other issues prevalent in Maine today. How will the student body vote and will it be a reflection of the outcome of the actual election? Time will tell!

As the election heats up, polls show that McCain is catching up to Obama and the race is getting closer. As part of his campaign strategy, Obama recently bought 5 million dollars worth of air time on public television to convey his policies about taxes and supporting the diverse struggling middle class that the current economic crisis has hit hardest. The half hour Obama spent on television highlighted his financial plans and gave him a chance to talk without being refuted or questions being posed regarding the realistic potential of any of his plans. It was to the core political. Several people were featured on the program to share their stories. The families from the various regions were ones that the average middle class worker can relate to as well as the military families that Obama needs to take from McCain in order to secure the battle ground states like Ohio or near the southern border.
