As the ’08-’09 year commences, the Vineyard Christian School student body has elected its new Student Council members: Abby Coleman, President; Josh Gauthier, Vice President; and Melissa Thurman, Secretary. Student Representatives include Jenna Rouillard, Jr. High; Rian Emano, ninth grade; and Shonah Russell, tenth grade. Mrs. Marybeth Laroche has been teaching and involved in Student Council since our school began more than eight years ago and she has great expectations for this year’s Student Council. After only two meetings, the Student Council is planning pep rallies for the VCS Revolution Soccer Team, dances that vary anywhere from the Roaring 20s to the Hippie Age, from Christmas to Mexico and many other exciting things to come.
This year’s Student Council seems to be focused on “changing the voice of Student Council by their inclusiveness of the student body.” The heart of the new Student Council is to listen and to hear the wants and ideas of the student body and to bring back the heart of service both within and outside the VCS hallways. Mrs. Laroche is mostly excited by the willingness of the students and members of the Council to brainstorm and develop ideas together. “I feel strongly that this is a Student Council not an Adviser Council. So at the beginning of every year,” I want to get a feel for what you want out of this and in which direction they want to go.” VCS is learning that a true Revolution includes everyone.
