MONMOUTH – A police chase that began in Livermore Falls Wednesday night ended miles away when police stopped the driver at the Leeds-Monmouth line.

A Lewiston man was arrested and his passenger was questioned when the car they were riding in came to a stop on Route 202, where police had put down a spike mat.

Jason Madore, 24, was charged with driving with a suspended license, operating under the influence and eluding police.

His passenger, Jason Williamson, was the owner of the Toyota involved in the pursuit.

Shortly after 7 p.m., Livermore Falls police attempted to stop the car when it was spotted being driven with only one headlight.

Police said the driver refused to pull over and headed to Route 133. The car then sped into Wayne, traveling at between 60 and 100 mph, according to Maine State Police Trooper Tyler Stevenson.

The car was also being driven erratically.

“They definitely needed to be stopped,” Stevenson said.

The trooper was in the area when he was radioed about the pursuit. He began to follow the runaway car and police in nearby towns were notified.

Police said Madore drove into Winthrop on Route 133 and headed toward Lewiston. In Monmouth, a police officer was able to get a spike mat down onto the road ahead of the car.

The spikes disabled one of the Toyota’s tires and effectively brought the car to a stop at the side of the road, Stevenson said.

The trooper approached the car with his police dog in case the suspects attempted to flee. However, Stevenson said the pair surrendered without any struggle. Nobody was hurt in the chase.
