FARMINGTON – Registration is still open for a workshop on energy audits and conservation on farms being held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the Hardy Farm on Weeks Mills Road.

Farmers and others interested in learning more about increasing energy efficiency are invited to attend for free. Participants will receive information on how to find energy savings on their own farms, how to access Efficiency Maine incentives for equipment upgrades and how to determine whether they may benefit from a full energy audit of their own farm business.

Farmers who participate in the USDA’s Natural Resource Conservation Service Conservation Security Program and opted for a 2009 energy audit as part of the program are encouraged to the attend the workshop.

Farmers will learn how energy audits work and get the information necessary to sign up for them.

Farmers want to sign up as soon as possible to make sure they obtain the audits within the specified time frame, said Paul Hersey, the service’s district conservationist.

The workshop will also include presentations on small scale wind systems and dairy equipment. Part of the audit presentation will be outside so people attending should dress accordingly.

The workshop is free but registration is requested. Please call 778-3885 or e-mail: [email protected] for more information.

The Farm Energy Audit Workshop is sponsored by the Western Mountains Alliance, a member of the Maine Rural Partners Farm Energy Partners Network, and Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District.
