BOSTON (AP) – State police say a Charlestown man was driving drunk when he struck and killed a pedestrian on Soldiers Field Road in Boston’s Brighton neighborhood.

Police say 26-year-old Robert Finnerty was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee when he struck a man in the westbound lanes of Soldiers Field Road early Sunday.

The victim suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Finnerty and a passenger, 25-year-old Alex Saunders of East Falmouth, were both uninjured in the crash.

Finnerty was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

Police are still investigating the crash.
