PARSONSFIELD – Police arrested a Parsonsfield man Tuesday morning and charged him in connection with a police chase that included gunshots and a smashed cruiser.

Jesse Sanborn, 23, was taken into custody at about 1:45 a.m. He was charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, criminal mischief and assault, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.

Sanborn was held at York County Jail and is expected to appear in court Wednesday.

A Maine State Police trooper attempted to stop the station wagon Sanborn was driving through Limerick on suspicion of drunken driving, McCausland said in a written release.

Sanborn sped off down Randall Road in Parsonsfield, then, a short time later, reversed direction and smashed head-on with the cruiser in pursuit.

Trooper Daniel Worcester fired his gun at Sanborn’s vehicle, McCausland said.

About a dozen troopers and York County deputies searched Sanborn’s car, which he had abandoned at a nearby gravel pit.

He was tracked to an area home by police dog and taken into custody. He wasn’t injured.

The Maine Attorney General’s Office is investigating the incident, a routine occurrence whenever an officer’s weapon is fired.
