BOSTON (AP) – Authorities are investigating the source of $410,000 in cash that was found stashed in a hidden compartment inside an SUV on the Massachusetts Turnpike.

State police said a dog that is trained to detect narcotics sniffed out the money after the driver, a 31-year-old New Hampshire man, was stopped for a marked lanes violation.

The money, packaged in compressed stacks and wrapped in cellophane, was turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

No narcotics were found in the vehicle.

State police declined Monday to release the name of the driver because he had not been charged.

The driver, who was not the vehicle’s owner, agreed to a police search after saying he had limited information about the owner and other details related to the SUV with Louisiana plates.
