LEWISTON – Early winter ducks will be the center of interest for participants in the field trip sponsored by the Stanton Bird Club on Saturday, Dec. 6. Marginal Way in the Ogunquit area is the destination.

The group will car pool from the Promenade Mall parking lot in front of Staples, leaving at 8 a.m. and returning around 4 p.m. Dress warm and bring a lunch.

The birds the group has seen on past trips include wintering ducks such as common eiders, scoters, buffleheads and long-tailed ducks, as well as some less common birds such as harlequins, goldeneye and king eiders.

Stanton field trips are free and nonmembers are invited. All experience levels are welcome. For more information, contact trip leader Dan Marquis at 784-8397.

The next Stanton event will be the Christmas bird count on Saturday, Dec. 20. Those who would like to participate in the annual census of the bird population should contact Stan DeOrsey at [email protected] or 933-2266. All residents are encouraged to fill their bird feeders.

The Stanton Bird Club is a conservation organization offering monthly free natural history programs and field trips throughout the state. The organization welcomes new members, whose dues help to provide land stewardship at three sanctuaries, owned and managed by the club in Lewiston and Monmouth.
