PORTLAND (AP) – A 28-year-old Brownfield man has pleaded not guilty to allegations that he offered money to a father of four in return for allowing him to have sex with his 12-year-old daughter.

Michael Berk waived his right to a bail hearing Monday in U.S. District Court. He’s scheduled to go on trial Feb. 2 on two counts of using the Internet to coerce or entice a female. According to police, Berk made his offer in response to a help-wanted ad posted on Craigslist by a Biddeford man who said he needed work to provide for his family. The man contacted police, who set up a sting operation. Police say an undercover officer recorded Berk offering $300 a week for three times per week with the girl.

Meanwhile, police say additional charges involving child pornography are pending against Berk.
