SCARBOROUGH (AP) – A ballot recount has confirmed that there won’t be slot machines in Scarborough any time soon.

Election officials spent most of the day recounting more than 11,000 ballots that were cast Nov. 4 asking voters if they wanted to allow slot machines at the Scarborough Downs horse track.

In the Nov. 4 count, the measure was defeated by 239 votes. In the recount, it was defeated by 240 votes.

After the election, referendum supporters filed a petition asking for a formal recount.
