This is a response to the letter by Reginald Emery printed Nov. 29. I agree that the state should look everywhere in order to save taxpayers money. As a taxpayer, I would like to think that my money is being well-spent by the people voters have elected to be in charge.

However, I disagree with Emery when he states that “smart teachers” should push for classes of 25 to 30 students. Though his intentions are honorable, his knowledge of today’s classroom is lacking.

I personally invite him, and anyone interested, to spend a day with me and my 26 fifth-graders. Perhaps he will see how hard teachers are working to meet all of the demands and requirements that were not in place when he was in school.

I’m almost 50 years old and changed careers a few years ago to become a teacher. I love my job and have absolutely no regrets about my decision, yet the fact is, it would be an injustice to the children to increase the size of the classroom.

I’m listed in the phone book and will be waiting for Mr. Emery’s call.
