NORWAY – Donations are being sought for six tenants who lost their homes and belongings in a fire at 24 Cottage St. on Tuesday.
Angie Morse, operations director with New Horizon Capital Investment, which owns the apartment house, said the tenants have been moved to other apartments in Norway and Paris owned by the company.
“We have been getting donations,” Morse said. “Certainly more are welcome,” including clothing and furniture.
Building owner Harvey Solomon of Norway said Tuesday that the first-floor apartment of Annette Parker and her 8-year-old daughter Dakota, where the fire started, was destroyed while other apartments sustained smoke and water damage.
Sgt. Joel Davis with the state Fire Marshal’s Office said the fire appeared to have started around the refrigerator in the apartment.
“It does look accidental,” he said.
Other tenants were William Davis and his 3-year-old daughter Angelina in another first-floor apartment, and Henderson Gonzales and Amanda Marston in a second-floor apartment. Morse said another tenant was scheduled to move into the fourth apartment.
She said the company is waiting for information from its insurer to determine if the building is repairable.
