AUGUSTA (AP) – The U.S. Small Business Administration has accepted Maine’s request for an economic disaster declaration that will allow businesses in Northeast Harbor to obtain low-interest loans to rebuild from a July fire.

No injuries were reported in the fire that destroyed several businesses and residences of 18 people who lived above them.

Three businesses were closed for at least five days, and two other businesses remain closed.

Gov. John Baldacci announced the SBA approval Monday, saying the Economic Injury Disaster Loans will help the affected businesses have the chance to reopen and get back to work as quickly as possible.
